We love it when people visit St Erkenwald's. Here are some hints we hope will be of help.
We normally start at around 10.30am and finish around 12.30pm.
It will help you to arrive on time as you can choose where to sit and have time to settle down before we start. However, if occasionally you don't make it on time it’s nothing to worry about. We’re just glad you made it.
Whatever you’re comfortable wearing. Most people dress informally but on occasions some of our African members brighten things up with their traditional African dress.
It’s possible to park outside church in Levett Road, providing you avoid the restricted parking zones.
The only book we use is the Bible, and there plenty available in church. We project key Bible verses onto our large screen at the front and all the words for the songs are projected too.
Currently the children stay in church and join in worship and prayer. During the talk they have a separate activity or sometimes go into the meeting room to see a film clip with some associated teaching.
The person leading worship will make it clear. We usually stand for the singing as it’s easier that way, but it’s not essential.
You can access the toilet through either the meeting room or the office - simply follow the signs or ask others if you feel unsure. We have approved plans to extend the church to increase our facilities to include a kitchen, a meeting room, male, female and disabled toilets along with a baby changing unit. We hope to begin building very soon - further details can be found in church.
After our final song / prayer there’s often an invitation to come forward to receive prayer. If you would like someone to pray with you, there are usually a number of people available. You don't have to tell them anything specific if you don’t want to, they’ll pray for God’s blessing in your life. We assure you that what you share will not be subject to gossip.
Many do respond and come forward for prayer. Those who don’t simply make their way to the back of the church where there’s tea, coffee, squash and biscuits/cake available and start talking to those around them. We love it when people stay for some refreshments and a chat.
Encounter God is a course for everyone, especially for those wanting to investigate Christianity, New Christians, newcomers to the church and those who want to brush up on the basics.
The course is free to attend, though you will be asked to contribute to the cost of your meal if you can afford it. So why not come and find out the real answers to your questions. Find out more
