Carrying the Message
As a child I had a recurring vision that I would one day take the message of the risen Lord Jesus to children in Africa – this was stirred in my heart by a hymn we used to sing as children:
'Over the sea there are little brown children Mothers and fathers and baby’s dear they have not heard of the little Lord Jesus No-one has told them that God is near Swift let the message blow over the water telling the children that God is near.'
I held on to the vision into adulthood, every time Africa came into the media through news, film or TV God would bring the vision back to the forefront of my mind – and the old hymn would once again come to me. On the 08th March this year the word ‘Kenya’ was buzzing round our church.
Some of our fellowship stood up in the service and told of how they were going to build houses with a charity in Africa – I felt the Lord once again remind me of the childhood vision and I asked if I too could go on the trip.
I am going to build houses for those who live in poverty yet I pray that I also can bring the love of Jesus Christ to those who may not know Him, to tell them that if they call on His name they will receive salvation. I asked Jesus into my life over 25 years ago – each day I surrender my all to Him and by the presence of His Holy Spirit I know I can do anything through Him.
It’s been nearly 50 years since the original childhood vision – but I know that the Lord keeps his promises to those who trust in Him – praise God I can now take His love to the little children in Africa
