Welcome to the website of St Erkenwald's Church. As a growing church we welcome new people. We look forward to seeing you at St Erkenwald's, Barking soon where we pray you'll find a spiritual home.
As a church family we're committed to the principles of church life that we see written in the New Testament, where we are encouraged to be a community of people who love and serve Jesus Christ in obedience to His teachings. We are committed to love and care for each other and affect the area in which we live.
In everything we do we place a high emphasis on prayer, worship and teaching from the Bible.
The Parish of St Erkenwald, Barking Vestry and Annual Parochial Church Meeting will commence at 8 pm in the Church on 27th April 2011.
Please see the PDF attachments (left) for details of the forthcoming APCM agenda, reports and 2010 year end figures.
As a pastor I long for the moment that someone in the congregation would come to me and say, "You know Clive, I was reading the Gospel of John the other day and it changed my life." Or, "l was studying the book of Ephesians last week and I have come to a new understanding of who Christ is and who I am in Christ, and I am living more victoriously in my Christian walk."
However, it appears to me that the Bible is no longer exciting enough for this generation. And what's worse is that the person of Jesus is passe. We need something new, something fresh, something novel.
I attended church as a child and a teenager. There were several times when I felt that all I needed to do was to just take that step forward and give my life to God, but I didn't because I thought that I had to be this perfect person that could never put a foot wrong.
I knew in my heart that I could never be this 100% perfect person so there was no point. How could I give my life to God and never put a foot wrong? That would be impossible. So I thought to myself, go out and have some fun and give your life to God when you're an old woman. More.....
Life Groups are small groups of people (usually between 5-12 people) who meet regularly in homes to connect with others and to help each other take their next step of faith, whatever that may be.
Our hope is that everybody who calls St Erkenwalds their home church would connect in a Life Group so that they can experience the difference that intentional relationships can make in our lives!
